Jupiter Sign Calculator: What Is My Jupiter Sign?
Your Jupiter sign is the sign Jupiter was in when you were born, and astrologers read it as the area where you tend to feel lucky, generous and curious. Jupiter spends about a year in each sign, so your birth year does most of the work. Put in your birthday and birthplace and this page gives the sign and what it means in a line.
How to use it
- Enter when you were born. The year is what counts most, since Jupiter stays about a year in one sign. Month and day settle the dates when it was moving on.
- Enter where you were born. Choose your town from the list. It gets the local date right, which matters on the handful of days Jupiter crossed into a new sign.
- See your Jupiter sign. The sign and a short meaning appear under the form. You can check it against the table of dates further down this page.
Your Jupiter sign is the sign Jupiter occupied at your birth. Because Jupiter takes about twelve years to go around the zodiac, almost everyone born within the same year shares it. A birth time is needed on only about 4 of every 1,000 dates.
What your Jupiter sign points to
Jupiter is the planet of growth and optimism. In a chart it marks where you tend to feel lucky and generous, and the beliefs, studies and travels that widen your world. Its lesson is balance, because too much of a good thing can turn into excess or complacency.
A Jupiter sign is not a forecast of good fortune. It describes the way you grow: by leading, by caring for people, by study, by patience. Read it as a question of what opens doors for you, and what you tend to overdo.
Jupiter sign by birth date
Each row is the day a period began, in UTC. Local dates can be one day off, so for a birthday right next to a row, trust the form above. A sign can show up twice close together, because Jupiter sometimes crosses a border, slips back while retrograde, and crosses again. For a birthday outside these years, use the form.
| Jupiter enters (UTC) | Sign |
|---|---|
| 6 Feb 1985 | Aquarius |

| 18 Jan 2010 | Pisces |
| 6 Jun 2010 | Aries |
| 9 Sep 2010 | Pisces |
| 22 Jan 2011 | Aries |
| 4 Jun 2011 | Taurus |
| 11 Jun 2012 | Gemini |
| 26 Jun 2013 | Cancer |
Three examples, all checked with the calculator. A birthday of 3 November 1985 falls in the first row, Aquarius. A birthday of 15 May 1994 falls in the Scorpio period that began in November 1993. A birthday of 30 August 1988 is Gemini, while a birthday in January 1989 is Taurus, even though the Gemini period came first. That second pair is the sort of thing a simple rule of thumb gets wrong.
Why it is shared by so many people
Jupiter needs about 11.9 years for one trip around the zodiac. If your friends are close to your age, many of them have your Jupiter sign, and someone about twelve years older or younger may have it too. So this placement tends to say more about a period than about one person.
The part that is more your own is the house, which needs a birth time. The house names the part of life where Jupiter's growth tends to happen, such as friendships, home or study. Enter your time and open your full chart to see it.
Are some Jupiter signs luckier?
The old books do rank them. Sagittarius is Jupiter's home sign, Cancer is where it is called strongest, and Pisces was also given to Jupiter in traditional astrology. But astrologers describe every placement as having its own route to good fortune and its own thing to watch. Here is the route for each, as the sources describe it:
- Aries: taking the lead and starting things. Watch for not hearing disagreement.
- Taurus: patience and a steady home base. Watch for over-indulgence.
- Gemini: curiosity, conversation, a bit of everything. Watch for restlessness.
- Cancer: caring for people and a nurturing base.
- Leo: generosity and dignity that inspire confidence. Watch for showiness.
- Virgo: useful, careful, honest work. Watch for a narrow, critical view.
- Libra: fairness and finding the middle ground, without becoming a doormat.
- Scorpio: going all in and drawing on inner strength. Watch for pride.
- Sagittarius: believing in big ideas and living them.
- Capricorn: structure, integrity and a long plan, one step at a time.
- Aquarius: fresh ideas, cooperation and freedom of choice.
- Pisces: compassion and looking out for the underdog, with your feet on the ground.
Your Jupiter return
Jupiter comes back to its birth position about every twelve years, near ages 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 and 84. Astrologers call this a Jupiter return and read it as the start of a new growth cycle. It can be a good time to ask what you want to expand and which beliefs you have outgrown. You can work out your own from the table: the same sign comes round again about twelve years on.
Using the reading
Try the line under your sign against your own history. Think of a time when things opened up unexpectedly. Were you learning something, helping someone, travelling, taking charge? Then think of when a good thing went too far. Your Jupiter sign may name both.
For a fuller picture, read it next to your zodiac sign, which is the core of the chart, and your Mars sign, which shows how you act on what you hope for. The how we calculate page explains how Jupiter's position is found.
Common questions
What is the Jupiter sign in astrology?
It is the zodiac sign Jupiter was in when you were born. Astrologers read it as the area where you tend to feel lucky, generous and curious, and as the way you grow. It also shows what you can overdo, because Jupiter can turn into excess.
How do I find Jupiter in my birth chart?
The quickest way is the form on this page, which needs only your birthday and birthplace. In a full chart, look through the position list for Jupiter, shown after Mars, or for its small symbol on the wheel. A birth time adds the house.
What Jupiter signs are lucky?
Traditional sources favour Sagittarius, its home sign, and Cancer, where it is called strongest. Every sign is still described with its own route to good fortune: careful work for Jupiter in Virgo, for instance, and taking the lead for Jupiter in Aries.
Do I need my birth time for my Jupiter sign?
Almost never. Jupiter crosses into a new sign only once or a few times a year, so about 4 of every 1,000 dates are affected. On those days the card shows both signs and a rough hour would settle it. The house does need a time.
What house is my Jupiter in?
Your birth time and place decide this, since houses start from the rising sign. Enter them and See my full chart lists the house next to Jupiter. The house shows the part of life where this growth tends to happen.
How long does Jupiter stay in a sign?
About a year, because it takes close to twelve years to go around the zodiac. Some stays are split into pieces when Jupiter crosses a border, slips back and crosses again, as it did between Taurus and Gemini in 1988 and 1989.
Where is Jupiter right now?
Jupiter entered Leo on 30 June 2026 and moves on to Virgo on 26 July 2027. Both dates are in UTC, so your local calendar may be a day off. Your own Jupiter sign is a separate matter, fixed at birth.
Is your Jupiter sign your soulmate?
No. Jupiter describes how you grow and what you are generous with, and it does not point to a person. One sign, shared by nearly everyone born in the same year, could not pick anyone out.
