Chiron Calculator: What Is My Chiron Sign?
Chiron is a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, and its sign in your chart points to a tender spot and the understanding that can grow from it. Type in your date and place of birth and your Chiron sign appears with a short meaning. No birth time is needed, and the answer appears below the form.
How to use it
- Enter the date you were born. Month, day and year are enough for Chiron, since it can stay in one sign for years. The boxes advance on their own as you type.
- Choose where you were born. Pick the town from the list. This sets the time zone, which only matters if your birthday is the day Chiron crossed a sign border.
- Read the Chiron card. The sign appears with a short meaning. If it shows two signs, Chiron crossed a border that day and only a birth time can choose.
Your Chiron sign is the sign Chiron occupied at your birth. Chiron takes about 50 years to circle the zodiac and stays anywhere from one or two years to about nine in one sign, so your birth year usually gives the answer.
What Chiron is in a chart
Chiron is a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, and astrologers link it to old sore spots and the wisdom that can come from them. Where it sits in your chart is where you may feel unsure or easily hurt, and also where you can become a helpful teacher for other people. The theme is learning to accept a tender area of yourself rather than hide it.
Nothing about a Chiron sign says that something is wrong with you. Everyone has one, and it only points to an area where you may be more careful, and more understanding of others.
Chiron changes sign very unevenly
Chiron takes around 50 years to go once round the zodiac, and its path is lopsided, so it spends very different lengths of time in different signs. Between 1943 and 2027 it crossed Virgo, Leo and Cancer in one to three years each, while Pisces, Aries and Taurus took it seven to nine years each, counting the dips back over the border. That means a birth year narrows your Chiron sign far more than it does for Venus or the Moon, and often a single year is enough.
Because the signs are so uneven, a table is more useful for Chiron than for most points. It lists when each sign began and when Chiron left it for good, counted in UTC.
| Chiron in | First entered | Left for good | Also in the neighbouring sign |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virgo | 27 Jul 1943 | 18 Nov 1944 | |

Chiron also moves backward for around five months of each year, so near a border it steps over the line and back again. If your birthday is inside one of the windows in the right-hand column, or within a day of a date in the table, trust the calculator above rather than the table. It works from the exact day and place.
Two real examples
Maya's birthday is 15 May 1994. That date is inside the Virgo period, which runs from September 1993 to September 1995, so her Chiron is in Virgo. Elena's is 3 November 1985. That falls in the Gemini row, which runs from June 1983 to June 1988, so her Chiron is in Gemini. Both women can read their results straight from the table, but only the calculator can handle a birthday on a border.
How to read your Chiron sign
Read it as a description of where you are sensitive and where you are likely to grow into a helper. If you want to use it, try this:
- Read the sentence under your Chiron sign, then note the one situation in the last year that it describes.
- Ask what you do when that situation arises: do you cover it up, joke about it, or avoid it?
- Think about what you have learned from it that someone you know could use.
The third question is the point of Chiron in most modern readings: the sore spot and the wisdom come from the same place. If a Chiron reading feels heavy, put it down. It is one placement among many, and the other planets in your chart are equally part of the picture.
Where to go from here
Chiron needs no birth time for the sign. With a time, your full chart adds a house, which names the area of life where the theme is strongest. Your full birth chart shows it. The North Node calculator is the other slow-moving point worth reading next, and how we calculate explains the data behind Chiron's position.
Common questions
What is Chiron in astrology?
Chiron is a small body that orbits between Saturn and Uranus. Astrologers link it to old sore spots and to the wisdom that can come from them. Its sign in your chart shows where you may feel unsure and where you can help others.
How do I find my Chiron sign?
Put your birthday and town into the calculator above to see the sign Chiron was in on that date, with a short meaning. A birth time is not needed unless Chiron changed signs on your birthday.
Is Chiron a planet?
No. It is a small body, sometimes called a minor planet, with an orbit of about 50 years. Astrologers treat it as a point of interest in the chart alongside the planets, not as one of the ten classic ones.
Do I need my birth time to find my Chiron sign?
Almost never. Chiron spends years in a sign, so the date is enough. Your birth time is only needed to see the house Chiron is in, or on a birthday close to a sign change.
Why does Chiron stay longer in some signs than others?
Its orbit is stretched, so it speeds up in some parts of the zodiac and slows down in others. Between 1943 and 2027 it crossed some signs in one to three years and took close to nine years over Aries.
Does my Chiron sign mean something is wrong with me?
No. Everyone has a Chiron sign. Astrologers read it as a tender area where you can become wiser and more helpful to others, and it describes a theme in your life rather than a flaw.
Why might another site show a different Chiron sign?
Usually it will not, but around the dates when Chiron crosses a border it can step back across the line for a few months. Different time zone handling or rounding can move a birthday to the other side of that line.
